The Columbine High School massacre has left the nation scarred.

It is a sensitive topic. I felt revulsion at the thought of teenagers murdering one another. I felt anger that firearms were used to inflict such senseless violence.

The fault lies not with the guns. The fault is with those who pulled the trigger.

Our rights are old but valid: A government by and for the people is no longer an option

Government overstepping bounds: Our inalienable rights are being taken away

“A well-regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed.”

These 26 words have helped safeguard the citizens of this country and kept us from becoming subjects in a dictatorship many times over the last 200 years.

Those same words are in jeopardy from a government that is threatened by the people’s knowledge of their rights.
